These are typical ranges, not fixed prices. Where you are, how complex your product is and how many shots you need all move the quote up or down.

Per image or per day: which pricing applies to you?

Most UK studios price simple white background packshots per image. You post your products in, they shoot them on a clean background, and you pay for each finished photo. This is the cheapest route for marketplace listings, especially with a large catalogue.

Styled and lifestyle photography is usually priced per half day or full day, because the time goes into building a set, styling and lighting. One photographer estimates that a budget day covers roughly 20 to 40 simple white background products, far more than a styled day can.

Day rates by experience

Photographer levelTypical UK day rate
Budget or new freelancer£50 to £300
Experienced commercial photographer£600 to £900, usually with editing
High end or agency£1,000 to £2,500 and up

A real studio price list

As an example, one Essex studio publishes these prices for 4 images per product, plus VAT, with a minimum of 5 products:

  • Small products: £22 (about £5.50 per image)
  • Medium products: £40 (about £10 per image)
  • Large products: £60 (about £15 per image)
  • Cutout or transparent background: £2 per image extra

That is good value for clean listing photos. It does not include lifestyle scenes, models or social media content.

The extra costs most quotes leave out

The headline price is rarely the full bill. Before you book, ask whether these are included:

  • Models, plus agency fees and extra usage fees if the images go into ads
  • A stylist and props for lifestyle or seasonal scenes
  • Studio hire, if the photographer does not have their own
  • Sending samples to the studio and getting them back
  • Retouching beyond basic colour and exposure correction
  • Usage rights. Some quotes only cover limited first use, and wider use such as paid ads or print costs more
  • Reshoots for new seasons, new colours or new products

What Etsy and Amazon ask for

Etsy recommends photos at least 2000 pixels wide and high. Your first photo should be at least 635 pixels on each side, or it may rank lower in search, and it works best as a landscape or square image.

Amazon main images need a pure white background, with the product filling about 85% of the frame. At least 1000 pixels on the longest side lets shoppers zoom. This is how Amazon staff summarise the rules on Seller Forums, so check Seller Central for the current requirements before you shoot.

How to choose the right option

  • You only need white background listing photos for many products: a per image studio is usually the cheapest choice.
  • You are launching a collection and need a set of styled images once: a styled half or full day with a photographer makes sense.
  • You need new lifestyle visuals, ads and social posts every month: repeated shoots get expensive. A monthly content service can cost less over a year.

Where mindo fits

mindo turns one phone photo of your product into lifestyle visuals, studio photos and designs, directed and checked by a creative team and delivered every week. Plans start at £179 a month for 3 lifestyle visuals or 6 studio photos. No shoot, no samples to post. If you only need a one off set of packshots, a local studio may be cheaper, and we would rather tell you that.

Questions, answered.

How much does a product photo cost in the UK?

Simple white background product photos usually cost £5 to £35 per image in the UK, or £10 to £24 per image at higher volumes. Many studios have a minimum spend of £125 to £150.

How much does lifestyle product photography cost?

Lifestyle and styled product photography is usually priced by time. A styled half day typically costs £350 to £425 and a styled full day £600 to £845 in the UK, before models, props and extra retouching.

What is not included in a product photography quote?

Models, stylists, props, studio hire, sending samples, heavy retouching and wider usage rights are often charged separately. Ask the photographer to confirm what is included before you book.

Is AI product photography cheaper than a photo shoot?

For regular lifestyle content it often is, because there is no studio, model or shipping cost each time. For a large catalogue of simple white background photos, a per image studio can still be the cheaper choice.
